On Sunday, 26 February, in Bochum, under Senwabarwana policing area, a 55-year-old paramedic husband shot and killed his 44-year-old paramedic wife, Mokhapi Phalandwa.

She had previously obtained a protection order against him. He subsequently turned the gun on himself.

Man shot wife and turned gun on himself

Preliminary police investigation revealed that Phalandwa had moved out of their house to stay in a rented room in the area after his wife obtained the protection order.

On the morning of the incident, his wife visited him at his rented room at around 6 am.

He allegedly took out a firearm and shot his wife before shooting himself.

Police find two bodies on the scene

When the police arrived at the scene, they found both bodies lying in the street with gunshot wounds.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, urged people in relationships to seek advice and assistance when experiencing domestic challenges and refrain from resorting to extreme violence that involves taking lives.

The police have opened cases of murder and inquest.
