OUTA lay charges of treason, corruption and fraud against Malusi Gigaba

Always reassuring to see the Finance Minister’s name appear alongside the word ‘fraud’

The Organisation for Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) are gunning for Malusi Gigaba. During his time as Home Affairs Minister, he oversaw the fraudelent fast-tracking of certain business visas.

I bet you all know which Indian billionaire family Gigaba went out his way for…

Indeed, it is his involvement with the Gupta family that has forced OUTA into pressing five separate charges against him and his accomplices: The Finance Minister stands accused of treason, corruption, extortion, fraud and theft.

How Malusi Gigaba eased the Guptas into South Africa

Remember the name Gideon Christians. He had a central role in helping to bring the Guptas over to South Africa, and helped their extended family and friends get their visas to visit and work in Mzansi.

Malusi Gigaba had personally intervened and deployed Christians to work in New Delhi, India despite the South African consulate not having a position available for him. When this became an issue, Christians contacted the Guptas to ‘grease the wheels’.

What are OUTA’s main issues with Gigaba?

OUTA are furious that Christians helped the Gupta family circumvent immigration laws. Because Gigaba appointed him to this role to facilitate the Indian billionaires’ move between states, he will now face the fury of the fiscal crime-busters.

In a sworn affidavit submitted in Randburg today, OUTA laid out their strongly-worded statement explaining their case against Mr Gigaba:

“The apparent close relationship between Gideon Christians, Malusi Gigaba, Ashu Chawla and Tony Gupta should be investigated.  It appears Chawla and Tony Gupta didn’t have to follow prescribed procedure and received preferential treatment from Government officials.”

“In return, it appears that Christians was rewarded for his assistance. However, It also appears Tony Gupta may have had the ability to influence decisions taken by Gigaba. There reason, therefore, should be properly investigated.”

Who else have OUTA filed charges against?

Malusi joins a long, long list of government ministers and politically connected figures who have been targeted by OUTA.

Eskom pair Anoj Singh and Brian Molefe, Mining Minister Mosebenzi Zwane, Communications Minister Faith Muthambi, Duduzane Zuma & the Gupta family are all facing charges from the civil action group.

Blimey, it’s almost as if anyone who works with the Guptas is automatically corrupt? We are (pretending to be) shocked.
