There is still no confirmation of reports that disgraced paralympian Oscar Pistorius having apparently been moved from the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility in Pretoria, where he had been since being incarcerated. According to the HeraldLive, Pistorius has been transferred to a prison in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) in the Eastern Cape.

Pistorius shot his then girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp several times while she was in the bathroom behind a locked door at his Pretoria home on the night of Valentine’s Day in 2013. He maintains that he thought he was shooting at an intruder who had climbed in through the bathroom window.

Pistorius was first convicted of culpable homicide in 2014. He initially received a five-year prison sentence as a result. The matter was then taken to the Supreme Court of Appeal. The court then overturned the High Court’s verdict and convicted him of murder.

Oscar Pistorius moved to Gqeberha prison

HeraldLive reports that Oscar Pistorius arrived at the St Albans Correctional Centre in Gqeberha late on Friday evening, 26 November 2021. Pistorius is reportedly being kept in a single cell away from all other offenders at the facility.

For now, there is no word yet from the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) as to the facts surrounding the claim. According to HeraldLive, this is part of a process aimed at allowing Pistorius to engage Steenkamp’s parents – Barry and June, who have agreed to meet with him. It is not yet clear if, and when Pistorius will meet with the Steenkamps.

The Department of Correctional Services had confirmed earlier this month that Pistorius’ parole process is underway, but had been delayed by logistical difficulties. These difficulties relate to Pistorius being jailed in Gauteng, while the Steenkamp’s live in another province.
