Online application for Grade 8 learners NOW open

The Gauteng Department of Education said on Tuesday parents and legal guardians with children advancing to Grade 8 can officially apply to the school of their choice for the 2022 academic year.

‘THE REGISTRATION IS EASY AND EFFICIENT’

The online school registration opened on Tuesday and the department says the application process is easy.

It said in a tweet:

gdeadmissions.gov.za is now open only for parents & guardians with children currently in Grade 7 in public schools starting Grade 8 in 2022. If parents & guardians have not yet received an SMS, they can log into the website directly.”

Gauteng MEC for education, Panyaza Lesufi says the registration is easy and efficient.

“They will get an SMS. That SMS will give them the link to say verify your home address, verify your learner’s details, apply to the maximum of five schools that you want your child to go to, upload the documents when you have time. You have seven days to upload those documents, and then your child is enrolled.

He said that is why they prioritise learners within the public education system because they have been with us for quite some time.

“It doesn’t take more than three minutes.”

2022 SCHOOL CALENDAR: CRUCIAL DATES FOR SA LEARNERS, PARENTS AND TEACHERS

Well first off, there are different start dates for the two different clusters. According to the inland cluster 2022 school calendar, the first day of the first term commences on 12 January and ends on 17 March. However, for the coastal cluster, the first term begins on 19 January and ends on 25 March.

The second term will be carried out between 5 April and 24 June for both clusters. The third term will take place between 19 July and 30 September for both clusters and the fourth and final term will take place between 11 October and 14 December 2022.

Both 2022 school calendars (inland and coastal clusters) are made up of 43 weeks for the entire year and roughly 200 school days. The calendar has also been categorised into weekends, days for administration, school days, public holidays, special school holidays and school holidays.

While learning has been disturbed in the past due to COVID-19, we can’t be sure that the dates for the 2022 school calendar will be untouched but nevertheless, we remain positive that the vaccine rollout will do its job.
