One person has died and three were left injured after being flung out of a rolling vehicle on Monday.

The serious motor vehicle collision happened in the vicinity of the R25 and R515 intersection in Pretoria.

OCCUPANTS EJECTED OUT OF CAR

According to Emer-G-Med paramedics spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen reports from the scene are that a single light motor vehicle had left the roadway and rolled down an embankment, ejecting some of the occupants.

“Further assessment revealed that a sixteen-year-old female patient sustained critical injuries in the accident. She was stabilized on the scene by Emer-G-Med paramedics, before being airlifted to a specialist facility,” explained Van Reenen.

A male patient, approximately forty years of age, unfortunately, sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene upon the paramedics’ arrival.

Furthermore, two other occupants suffered moderate injuries when they were flung out of a rolling vehicle. They were treated and stabilized on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.

The cause of the accident will form part of the police investigation.

WHAT TO DO AFTER AN ACCIDENT:

  1. Stop your car and stay at the scene
  2. Firstly, stop your vehicle and, in the interest of road safety, switch on your hazards to warn other drivers.
  3. Climb out of your car if it is safe to do so and check if anyone has been hurt. Take pictures of the damage to all the vehicles involved in the incident.
  4. Help anyone who has been hurt
  5. While you can only be criminally charged for causing the accident and any resulting injuries, as a bystander, you have a moral obligation to help someone who has been hurt in a road accident. Help includes contacting an ambulance or rescue unit, even if the injuries do not appear to be serious.
  6. It’s critical that you don’t move the injured party and that you do not administer first aid unless you are qualified to do so.
  7. Get the details
  8. Record the information of everyone involved in the road accident.
  9. Take note of all road names, landmarks, intersections, and robots, as you will have to draw a sketch and description of the accident on your police report and for insurance purposes.
  10. Report the accident
  11. Inform the police within 24 hours of the road accident. If the police come to the scene, don’t move anything until they say you may.
  12. Ensure that you get an Accident Report (AR) number, as this is needed for any insurance claim or third-party claim you may lodge.
