1914 | Black women in the Orange Free State (an independent Boer sovereign republic under British suzerainty) protested for being included in Pass legislation which was only reserved for African men.

1980 | Robert Mugabe returns to Zimbabwe after he was in exile in Mozambique for five years. He was gathering supporters for his party ZANU-PF to fight against the government of Salisbury now Harare.

1992 | The European Community announced it will lift economic sanctions imposed on South Africa in September 1985.

1996 | A military coup led by Col Barre Mainassara Ibrahim removed the first democratically elected president of Niger, Mahamane Ousmane, from power.
