1971 | Ugandan President, Milton Obote is removed from power by a coup led by General Idi Amin Dada while he was at a Commonwealth meeting in Singapore.
1981 | A severe flood in Laingsburg, Western Cape killed at least 100 residents 100 and destroyed 184 houses leaving only 21 houses standing.
1986 | The National Resistance Movement in Uganda overthrows the government of Tito Okello.
2010 | 90 people are killed when Ethiopian Airlines Flight 409 crashes into the Mediterranean Sea.
