1962 | The Sedan nuclear test occurs as part of Operation Ploughshare.
1964 | Malawi declared its independence from the United Kingdom.
2000 | More than 5 000 members of the scientific community signed the Durban Declaration, which claimed that HIV was the cause of AIDS. In reaction to the AIDS denialist views of the previous president Thabo Mbeki, the proclamation was signed and made public.
