1913 | The first group of Indian silencers, consisting of 12 men and 4 women (including Mrs. Kasturba Gandhi) were arrested in Volksrust and imprisoned in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

2008 | Parliament met to discuss the resignation of President Thabo Mbeki

1914 | Louis Botha, premier of the Union of South Africa, took command of the forced troops after dismissing General Beyers because of his opposition to helping the British in the war against Germany.

2013 | At least 75 people were killed in a suicide bombing at a Christian church in Peshawar, Pakistan.

1995 | An E-3B AWACS plane crashed outside of Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska after the plane hit two of its four engines shortly after takeoff, killing all 24 on board.
