These guys just came here for a jol! A few young men, presumably matriculants, are winning the South African internet with their reaction to Plett Rage being cancelled. A short clip of them being interviewed at the venue is doing the rounds on social media and South Africans with their sense of humour, are absolutely loving it!

Plett Rage: ‘Okes came to party’

Well, someone managed to record a TV interview the boys did with eNCA at the venue for Plett Rage. The “okes” express their disappointment with Plett Rage being canned, especially forking out thousands of rands for the four-day fiesta. The guys told the broadcaster they had just finished going for a swim – not long after arriving for the event, when they found it was called off.

Here’s some background: Plett Rage was set to begin on Friday, 3 December and end on Tuesday – but at the last minute, organisers of the event decided to pull the plug, citing a number of positive COVID-19 cases. Rage is considered the mother of all parties for matriculants – they groove for days on end as a celebration for finishing high school. The cancellation of Plett Rage comes as Balito Rage was also called off after 36 people contracted COVID-19.

At the time, organisers said it would still continue, provided that those attending can prove they were vaccinated and able to produce a negative COVID-19 test. But all that changed after schools that were set to attend Plett Rage had positive cases.

“Although we, as organisers, have implemented the most stringent Covid-19 preventive measures, there was no way to pre-empt the devastation that the current surge of Covid-19 cases nationally would cause. The system we put in place regarding pre and on-site testing was our safety net to know what was happening prior to opening. To those who tested positive, thank you for letting us know.”
