Oh mercy, this is a pickle: A woman travelling from Khayelitsha into Cape Town got herself in a very awkward situation this week, after the passenger told her Uber driver that she had no way to pay him… LONG AFTER the trip had started. Her alleged ‘counter-offer’ was also rebuffed.

Uber driver dismayed by woman’s offer ‘to let him touch her’

The Uber driver, concerned he’s being played, begins recording his client. He claims the passenger said ‘he could touch her’ in exchange for the service provided. This did not sit well with the man behind the wheel, though – and he filmed the exchange to rule out wrongdoing on his part.

Not wanting to cross any boundaries, the driver chastises the woman, rejecting her alleged indecent proposal. The Uber worker refuses to let the woman go, after she confirmed she had no available method of payment. Sadly, this deadlock only became more difficult to break.

The passenger also stated that she could make the payment, *if* she was allowed to leave the car and charge her phone. Alas, the driver remains sceptical about the digital payment options she lists. He then suggests taking the client to the police, in order to ‘resolve the matter’.

On several occasions, the driver reiterates that the woman said ‘he could touch her‘ in a sexual manner, as a substitute for a payment. At no point does she dispute or challenge this version of events. The footage ends at an impasse, as both parties continue to argue their case.

Uber have since responded to the person who posted the video, but it’s unclear if they have yet made contact with the motorist. A support team on Twitter issued the following message, but direct action so far remains lacking.

“We are sorry to hear about this. Could you provide us with the phone number related to your account and the time, date, and name of the rider from the trip in question through DM to be able to assist? We’ll look out for your reply…” | Uber Support
