‘Tone deaf’: Bonang calls out Mbalula over N2 Pongola crash

Bonang Matheba has accused Fikile Mbalula of being tone deaf by heading to Qatar instead of going to Pongola.

Media personality Bonang Matheba has called out Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula for travelling to Qatar instead of going to Pongola where 21 people were killed in a crash on Friday. 

Bonang made headlines in the last few months for labelling Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister, Nathi Mthethwa useless and calling for his resignation. 

BONANG CALLS OUT FIKILE MBALULA 

In a tweet Mbalula informed his 2.8 million followers that he landed safely in Doha, Qatar on Sunday morning. 

Responding to the tweet, Bonang accused Mbalula of being tone deaf. 

“Tone deaf. All of you. You should’ve cancelled this trip. The community of Pongola needs you,” Queen B tweeted.

This comes after 21 people including 19 children lost their lives when a bakkie and a truck collided on the N2 near Pongola in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 16 September. 

The truck driver who is reportedly responsible for the accident fled the scene, however, he handed himself over to the police on Saturday and was subsequently arrested.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Mbalula conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased. 

“We will be working with the Road Traffic Management Corporation to investigate the cause of the accident and ensure that those liable are held responsible,” he said. 

Mbalula further said that the loss of young lives on the country’s roads is extremely saddening.
