The State of the Nation Address (SONA 2019) has just kicked off and the guests did not even make it inside Parliament without spurring all the laughs on social media.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to deliver his most crucial speech as the head of state, to-date.

While the serious nature of the occasion is yet to come when Ramaphosa delivers his much-anticipated address at 19:00, South Africans who tuned in to the festivities that took place outside of Parliament got all the entertainment they were hoping for.

The red carpet saw all sorts of looks pulled off by the dignitaries. From Gwede Mantashe finally sporting a fitted suit, to Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the new Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), serving all the looks, many were overall impressed with the high fashion turnout.

Mantashe finally fits into a dapper suit

The ANC chairperson was one of the most sought-after dignitaries on the red carpet. People were also finally impressed with the leader’s choice in a fitted suit. Not too shabby!

Military official botches routine

This one does not need to be unpacked. It is highly embarrassing, to say the least. Surely, the officer caught on footage missing a step in the military routine will be reprimanded and dealt with retrospectively.
