Chris Hani was an activist and the leader of the South African Communist Party and chief of staff of uMkhonto we Sizwe

Hani attended Fort Hare from 1959 to 1961 and graduated in 1962 at the Rhodes University in Grahamstown with a Bachelor of Arts degree specialising in Latin and English.

He died on 10 April 1993 aged 44.

Hani said: “What we need in South Africa is for egos to be suppressed in favour of peace. We need to create a new breed of South Africans who love their country and love everybody, irrespective of their colour.”
