There is nothing better than receiving a handmade gift and with Christmas coming up what better way to show your loved ones you care?

3 December is make a gift day.

The history behind make a gift day

Making your own gifts used to be the standard because there were no manufacturing facilities to buy them from.

Instead, when a gift was given, the receiver knew it would be something special, most

These gifts are usually the result of extensive planning, making them even more special.

Whether it was a scrapbook, an item of clothing, or a tray of cookies, everything was handcrafted with care and love.

Why not make some crayon candles as gifts?

Candles are an easy and fun gift that your friends are sure to appreciate; here’s how to get started:

What you need:

  • Old candles
  • Candle Wicks
  • Recycled Jars
  • Crayons
  • A container to melt the wax
  • Pencil
  • Paper towels

Instructions:

  1. Make sure the glass or metal container you want to use for your candle is clean and dry.
  2. Put the wick in the container. Wrap the top of the wick around a pencil and place it on the rim to keep the wick centered.
  3. Place your recycled old candle wax in the candle making pot. Isolate your wick and keep it away from the melting process.
  4. If you do not have a candle-making pot, melt it over low heat in a kitchen pot.
  5. Turn the heat to low and place your melting pot on the stove. Keep an eye on your wax at all times because it tends to melt and burn quickly.
  6. Depending on how much wax you use, add one or two crayons.
  7. Melt your mixture and pour it into the candle containers you’ve prepared.
  8. Allow to cool before trimming the wick.

And just like that, you’re done!

You can now have fun wrapping your gifts and see the smiles on your loved ones’ faces when they open their gifts.
