Hate it or love it, it does have a ring to it.

As the week draws to a close, it has become clear that load shedding is going to be around for quite some time.

Eskom noted, on Thursday, that due to “a shortage of capacity”, stage 2 load shedding will be implemented between 9:00 and 21:00 as an urgent measure to relieve at least 2 000MW from the power grid.

Why has Eskom implemented load shedding?

The power utility claims that it had issued this warning back in September when it stressed the importance of containing unplanned breakdowns below 9 500MW.

Well, it seems that the failure of a conveyor belt at Medupi has led to low volumes of coal being supplied to the power station, thus forcing the power utility to implement load shedding.

“The severe supply constraint being experienced has come about due to high levels of unplanned breakdowns that have exceeded the 10 500MW limit. The supply constraint is caused by, among others, five generating units that are unavailable due to boiler tube leaks,” Eskom explained.

EFF’s Ndlozi trolls Gordhan and Ramaphosa with new tune

It was only a matter of time before the EFF, whose disdain for Pravin Gordhan is well-documented, put the blame for load shedding on the Public Enterprises Minister.

Gordhan and his team of Eskom capers have yet to address the media on the power utility’s plan to turn things around. This has not discouraged the likes of Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, EFF’s national spokesperson, from trolling the bunch.

The Red Beret cadre shared a clip of a classic spoof featuring the embattled minister. This version of Joshua Doore’s classic advert song was flipped into “you’ve got an uncle in the load shedding business, Pravin Gordhan… and Cyril [Ramaphosa]!”.

Gordhan will most certainly not be tapping his feet to this one. You can check out the entire clip that’s had social media in tatters below.
