The police in southeastern Denmark have a marsupial mystery on their hands. A driver spotted what seemed to be a kangaroo hopping around on Monday morning, 21 February, near Øster Ulslev.

The South Zealand and Lolland-Falster police took to their Facebook page and asked members of the public to report any sightings of the kangaroo to its non-emergency number.

The police said a motorist “had to rub the sleep out of his eyes” when he spotted the animal – which is not considered dangerous – on Monday.

The driver also managed to capture a rather grainy video of the ‘roo that shows it hopping across a field near a village that is approximately 16 kilometres from the port city, Rødbyhavn, which is linked to northern Germany via ferries.

The gag is no one has reported a missing kangaroo, according to the Associated Press. It is also not the first time one has been spotted in the police district.

In 2014, a kangaroo escaped from a private animal farm in the area. Four years later in July 2018, a kangaroo escaped elsewhere and was on the run for half a day before it was found by its owner.
