It’s the mother of all giveaways, and it’s causing a frenzy for consumers across South Africa. Here’s how to book your FlySafair R5 flights on Tuesday.

One of the most exciting days on the calendar for frequent flyers in South Africa is upon us: FlySafair has reintroduced their offer of R5 flights for one day only, as bargain-hunters across the country join “the waiting room”. But you’ll have to be quick because these babies – which are available from 9:00 on Tuesday – sell like hot-cakes.

With tickets almost sold out, we’ve got an update on an alternative way you can secure your flights here.

After a slight delay, it now seems like FlySafair have banished the technical gremlins and it’s “game on”.

Let the booking madness begin!

There are apparently 45 000 flights to give away this year, which is 50% more than what was put on offer in 2018. However, there was an air of controversy last May when all tickets were snapped up within an hour, and some punters cried “conspiracy” over the giveaway.

FlySafair dismissed these rumours, and also had to contend with jibes about the design of their “landing page”. But, despite the flaws, a cheap flight is a cheap flight, ladies and gentlemen. Here’s what you need to know about snapping up an unfathomably cost-effective ticket:

FlySafair R5 flights: How do I book my tickets?

It’s just like booking any other flight, but with one added caveat. Before you can get through to the website, you have to sit in FlySafair’s waiting room. As you would expect, the demand is absolutely massive and the only way to regulate the promotion is by keeping everyone on one page.

Visitors are then, at random, granted access to the website, where they will be greeted with a slew of offers. All flight routes are part of this deal, which means you can fly to almost any major city in South Africa and back for less than the price of a cool drink.

To get to the waiting room, visit flysafair.co.za and remember – patience is a virtue. You’ll be pleased to know that there have already been reports of the site going down on Tuesday, so, you know… Good luck!

FlySafair R5 flights offer – essential information:

  • These seats are available on selected flights that depart between 8 May and the end of September 2019.
  • The R5 tickets only include carriage and 7kgs of hand luggage.
  • You can book for up to 14 passengers (all on the same flight) but you will only get R5 tickets for all 14 people if there are that many R5 seats available on that flight.
  • At five minute intervals, FlySafair randomly selects a number of users and allow them access to the website so that they can search for the tickets that they want to purchase.
