‘Mogoeng Mogoeng’s 666 prayer not to blame for AstraZeneca issues’ – Mkhize

Mogoeng Mogoeng asked for ‘evil vaccines’ to be destroyed by God last year. Now AstraZeneca jabs have faltered, Zweli Mkhize is out to establish the facts.

Not much to see here. Just the Health Minister of South African denying claims that the Chief Justice managed to pray the AstraZeneca vaccine away: Zweli Mkhize has rubbished the notion that Mogoeng Mogoeng used an energetic session of worship to prevent jabs from working, as the top legal mind suggested the shots ‘were infused with the mark of the devil’.

The Chief Justice and the AstraZeneca blunder

Mogoeng Mogoeng’s now-infamous rant was… something else. He asked for ‘any vaccine carrying the number of the beast to destroyed by fire’, claiming that the ‘angels of judgement’ would strike down any jabs that could turn people evil. Spoiler alert – that’s literally not how vaccines work. At all. In any possible scenario you could imagine.

But, some two months after the Chief Justice’s ramblings, the AstraZeneca vaccine hit a snag. Its efficacy for mild to moderate cases was proved to be extremely low for the South African variant of COVID-19. This led to Mogoeng’s supporters claiming a victory in the name of God. Zweli Mkhize, however, could not be less convinced.

Did Mogoeng Mogoeng’s ‘anti-vaccine prayer’ work? – Zweli Mkhize says no

Minister Mkhize branded the claims ‘completely untrue’, questioning why God would only strike down the AstraZeneca vaccine in South Africa ‘when it works well in other places across the world’.

“I listened to Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng saying COVID-19 vaccines are from the devil. That’s completely untrue. The fact that the AstraZeneca vaccine isn’t effective against mild/moderate COVID-19 in SA, has NOTHING to do with the devil.”

“He didn’t mention AstraZeneca as such. I also believe that we serve one God and all of us as people, whether we are in London or South Africa or anywhere in the world, there would be no difference in the way that God would look at us.”

“Therefore, I wouldn’t expect God would actually want to act on a vaccine in South Africa when the same vaccine is doing well in London, India, Europe, and everywhere else. I think we shouldn’t mix the two issues. I think it was an expression from the Chief Justice to assure people that if there was anything that was wrong, they would be protected.”
