Drunk teachers cause scandal at Jacob Zuma High School

It was announced on Monday that there’d be a picket at the Durban-based school, demanding the immediate removal of the allegedly drunk teachers. The accused have been reported for ‘drinking excessively’, ‘working while intoxicated’, and subsequent ‘absenteeism’…

School authorities asked to intervene

The demonstration got underway as planned at the facility in Bester, which is just north of Durban. These two teachers are understood to work in the respective science and geography faculties, and their drinking habits have allegedly been a problem ‘for the past five years’.

The educational institution opened in 1997, under the title of Ekuthuleni Combined School. The school then renamed itself to honour former President Jacob Zuma, who served a controversial nine-year term as South Africa’s head of state.

Complaints have been made about the conduct of staff at the JG Zuma High School before, but no action has ever been taken against the accused. Parents are now gatvol with the standard of education here, and they’re hoping to pile on the pressure to get what they want.
