The glitz and glamour of Hollywood has descended upon a small coastal town in Cape Town. Kalk Bay has found itself as the unassuming host of film crews and A-Listers alike. Locals have since been clamouring to get a glimpse of the action.

Hollywood comes to Kalk Bay!

A new series, called 1923, is coming to Paramount Plus. It serves as a spin-off from the popular Yellowstone series. The western-themed show focuses on a family battling against lawlessness and theft. Viewers will be able to stream it online from 18 December 2022.

Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are the undoubted stars of the show. They play two significant roles, giving the eagerly-anticipated series even more gravitas. The first teaser trailer for 1923 dropped over the weekend – you can watch it here:

Kalk Bay, meanwhile, has been basking in the special attention it has received as a result of its Hollywood makeover. Old, traditional boats have been lined up in the famous harbour. Parts of the town has been transformed, to replicate how things were 100 years ago.

A number of amateur photographers have managed to sneak a series of shots throughout the last few weeks. Expensive camera equipment, scores of film crew members, and state-of-the-art lighting have all been on the receiving end of the ‘paparazzi treatment’.

From rugby field to base camp

Meanwhile, Fish Hoek High School also revealed some exciting news about the 1923 project. Their top sports field, which is primarily used for rugby and athletics, has been turned into a ‘Hollywood Headquarters’ for the production crew and staff.

Cars, trailers, and tents populate the makeshift base camp – which is just a stone’s throw away from Kalk Bay.
