Have you ever had a Saturday like this before? We’re guessing the answer is no, for almost all of us. However, these party people in Pretoria had the time of their lives this weekend, racking up a R1.3 million bar bill and pouring away bottles of champagne without a care in the world.

Pretoria bar bill shocks South Africans

The 012 Lifestyle bar in Brooklyn, Pretoria played host to a wild get-together here: Dozens of revellers packed into the venue, after being invited by a flamboyant Zimbabwean ‘prophet’ who goes by the name of Passion Java. So far, so ridiculous…

Things got out of hand, in the most wasteful way imaginable. Exactly 100 bottles of the Ace of Spades champagne was ordered. Going for R10 000 a pop, this pushed the bill up to a cool million. And we’re only just getting started…

A further 50 bottles of Veuve, and an additional 20 bottles of Dom Perignon were also added to the tab. Whiskey, platters, and a generous helping of Coke cans took the final bar bill to R1.3 million. Truly, Mr. Java was the real blesser on Saturday night.

Spending R1.3 million – just to pour your champagne away!

A friend of the self-proclaimed prophet was celebrating his birthday – and that’s when the champagne showers started. The group was doused in bubbly, with those left on the dancefloor splashing through puddles of the expensive booze. Controlled fireworks also went off in the background.

It’s also understood Java didn’t attend the event himself, but was more than happy to cover the costs personally – including a R124 000 tip!

The cynics have some questions…

Some Facebook users who commented on the picture of the bill however, believe there is something much more sinister at play, suggesting that the patron was actually laundering money, under the guise of making it rain in the club.

Others questioned the authenticity of the bill, specifically asking how the establishment could even afford to have so many bottles of expensive champagne in stock. One gets the impression there’s plenty more to come from this story.
