Watch: Minister of NO Energy? ‘Tired tiger’ Mantashe snoozes in Parliament

For the second time in two days, an ANC minister has allegedly been caught napping in Parliament – by a DA MP! Gwede Mantashe is the latest to fall foul of a sneaky recording, which is now going viral on Twitter.

Earning your keep, Mr. Minister?

The ANC stalwart – who ironically has ‘energy’ in his ministerial portfolio – was seen in the land of nod earlier on Wednesday afternoon. With his tie swaying off to one side and eyes clamped shut, the man affectionately known as ‘the tiger’ didn’t look like he had much to roar about.

Clearly, the oral questions weren’t enough to keep Mantashe entertained, and he allowed himself a quick catnap. At the end of the clip, he’s seen gradually coming back to his senses. It’s nice to see our taxes are being well spent, anyway…

Tiger Mantashe steals a catnap

Gwede Mantashe has been roasted on social media, with the most cutting comments coming from DA politicians. Deputy Chief Whip Siviwe Gwarube branded him ‘a tired tiger’ – but Shadow Trade Minister Dean Macpherson went a step further, and took the prize for the day’s ‘best-worst pun’.

Yet another minister ‘asleep at the wheel’

This footage was uploaded just 24 hours after ANOTHER minister was caught grabbing some shuteye in Parliament. Nathi Mthethwa appeared to fall asleep during a debate on Human Rights Day on Tuesday.

The Sports, Arts and Culture Minister arguably did a better job of styling it out. Mantashe, meanwhile, seemed to be in a much deeper sleep – and not even his mask couldn’t save him from a public ribbing.
