This is our worst nightmare. Imagine being lucky enough to win MILLIONS on the Powerball Plus draw – only to risk losing it all. A golden ticket, purchased in December last year, has not been claimed. In just a few weeks time, their chance to bag a R7.5 million prize will be GONE.

That’s why the National Lottery has taken to social media on Tuesday. They are desperately trying to track down the Cape Town resident who unwittingly scooped the jackpot back in December 2021. The potential ‘multi-millionaire’ is now running out of time.
They have until Saturday 3 December to come forward with their winning ticket. That’s just 26 days from now, by the way. All participants and players – of both the Powerball and Powerball Plus draws – are being urged to check their accounts.

What happens when winning tickets go unclaimed?
Ithuba, who operate the Powerball, Powerball Plus, and Lotto draws, have a rule where prizes can be claimed ‘within a year’. However, this 365-day deadline is now coming to a close. If you remember buying a ticket at Ravensmead Supermarket last December, it may be worth a search.
Meanwhile, South Africans have another opportunity to win an enormous amount of money on Tuesday evening. A total of R160 million is up for grabs across both Powerball draws. The numbers will be chosen at 21:00 tonight.
