No fear, no favour: That’s the attitude the City of Tshwane has taken this week, after it embarked on a campaign to name and shame those who haven’t been paying for their basic utilities. After SAPS and SARS felt the wrath of #TshwaneYaTima, a luxury estate in Silverlakes also received a visit today.

Tshwane cuts electricity, restricts water at posh estate

The affluent complex is believed to be some R25 million in arrears, with bills for electricity and water services remaining unpaid. City officials are now demanding that the billpayers settle the sum – and drastic action has already been taken.

According to the City of Tshwane’s social media accounts, the water supply has been restricted, and the electricity was cut off earlier on Friday. On top of that, the state was hit by an eye-watering fine.

Estate fined heavily for ‘illegal connection’

Municipal workers found that the estate was also using an ILLEGAL water connection – and that won’t stand:

“A posh estate in Silverlakes saw its water restricted and electricity disconnected. They also reconnected their water illegaly, so we are going to slap them with a R621k fine. Just when we were about to leave, we found the second valve connected to the meter, leaving us with no choice but to issue the fine.”
