A Florida Man told detectives that he stole a vehicle because he couldn’t find his car. He abandoned the stolen car on a railway line where it was struck by an oncoming train and sent flying into a nearby home.

A Florida man stole a car… to look for his car after leaving a bar in Martin County on Saturday, 5 February. The local sheriff’s office was astonished by the events that would follow and said “no title could explain” the case in a statement.

FLORIDA MAN STRIKES AGAIN

Bradford Weitzel, 38, from Port St Lucie told Martin Country Sheriff Detectives that he stole a car “in good faith” in the early hours of Saturday morning because he was unable to locate his own vehicle after leaving the bar.

“He said he somehow ended up on the train tracks along Indian River Drive. That’s when Weitzel claims the vehicle he stole suddenly stopped dead on the tracks as a train was coming,” said the Sheriff’s Office.

With seconds to spare the Florida Man of the hour bolted from the car and left it on the tracks. The oncoming train collided with the stationary vehicle and sent it flying into a nearby home where the owners were fast asleep.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the homeowners were not injured but – as you can imagine – they were jarred by the “explosive sound of a driverless car smashing into the side of their home.”

However, Weitzel’s shenanigans were far from over. He headed to a nearby fruit stand and vandalised the business and attempted to steal a forklift.

He was eventually arrested when he decided to flag down the deputies that were heading to the scene of the crash. He told them that he was still looking for his car, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Weitzel was charged with Grand Theft and Criminal Mischief and additional charges are expected to follow.
