Blacked out bus driver tells court he didn’t know sweets were laced with dagga

The police found the bus driver out cold next to a packet of Smokies Edibles Cannabis Infused Fruit Chews. He passed out while driving 38 passengers.

A commercial bus driver was arrested and charged with 38 counts of reckless endangerment in Boston, USA after he passed out behind the steering wheel. He was eating gummy sweets infused with THC – the active ingredient in marijuana.

JINHUAN CHEN CHARGED AFTER EATING DAGGA SWEETS

The accused, Jinhuan Chen, appeared in the Bridgeport Superior Court on Tuesday, 14 June, according to the Associated Press (AP).

With the aid of an interpreter, Chen told the court he didn’t know the gummies he was eating contained marijuana.

The incident took place on 13 March. Chen was driving 38 passengers from the Mohegan Sun Casino. He managed to pull the vehicle to the side of Interstate 95 in Stratford.

When the police arrived at the scene they found the accused slumped unconscious behind the steering wheel next to a packet of Smokies Edibles Cannabis Infused Fruit Chews.

When his blood was tested it was found that he had a high level of THC in his system.

Victor Chen, the manager of Go Go Sun Tour, which employs the accused, told Hearst Connecticut Media that the accused had been driving for the company for 10 years and has an exemplary record.

“He doesn’t drink, he doesn’t smoke, but he has a sweet tooth and likes candy,” said Victor Chen.

“This would never have happened a couple of years ago. but now there’s marijuana everywhere here,” he added.

Chen was remanded in custody in lieu of a $25 000 bond (R 400 202,50). His next court appearance is expected on 25 August.
