Matheba says this guy deserved to be catfished if he really thought that she was out here begging people for airtime on Facebook.

Bonang Matheba gave an unapologetic reaction to a man who fell victim to a classic, albeit obvious, catfish scam.

Woman poses as distressed Bonang Matheba

Dealing with crazies is just one part of the glitz and glamorous life of Bonang Matheba. Matheba, a famous celebrity and serial entrepreneur, probably comes across many women who aspire to be like her.

However, we doubt that she’s ever come across someone who has used her likeness to scam men for airtime and some change.

That is exactly what happened to this gentleman. Twitter user, @BetaneNditsheni fell victim to the scam of a person who, pretending to be Bonang Matheba on Facebook (the red flag of all red flags), swindled him for a few bucks.

To Nditsheni, the distressed calls from Bonang Matheba were enough signs from the Universe that he was the one chosen to save the millionaire businesswoman, who just so happens to own one of the most popular MCC brands in South Africa.

The catfish told Nditsheni that her ‘sister’ was “stuck at M1 by Midrand” and that she could not purchase airtime from her app as the signal was ‘poor’ at Urban Brew Studios, where she was apparently busy with a shoot.

After sharing a number with Nditsheni, she then says:

“But please I wouldn’t appreciate you calling her because I don’t want her to know that the airtime isn’t coming from me. I know some African men can be childish.”

Heeding the cries of a damsel in distress, Nditsheni sent this Bonang poser R100 airtime, not knowing that he was being scammed.

Matheba’s reaction was hilarious

Realising this after the fact, Nditsheni took to Twitter to spam Bonang with screenshots of the interaction that took place earlier on Facebook.

Matheba must have caught wind of the tweets once they went viral and her reaction was priceless.
