Drug dealers have been part of the informal and illegal economy since the dawn of our democracy.

The fight against drug dealers is one that cannot be simply achieved by police without the intervention of whistle-blowers.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has provided basic tips to tell on drug dealers without being subjected to risks.

HOW TO GO ABOUT REPORTING DRUG DEALERS

If you want to blow the whistle on drug dealers and their activities in your community, the Crime Stop Call Centre may be contacted at 08600 10111.

Crime Stop is a national contact centre staffed with well-trained investigative interviewers, who all have at least basic detective training. They assist callers to provide usable information on criminals, their criminal conduct and their whereabouts. This contact centre is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Record as much detail as you can. Always stay safe and don’t approach potential dealers, but gathering details about the activities you observe can help police take the proper action.
Do not openly collect information, take photographs, or do other things that might provoke a hostile dealer.

OPTION FOR ANONYMITY

You can choose to remain ANONYMOUS if you will feel safer that way. Provide the police with as much detail as possible about the situation you have observed: where you believe drug dealers are operating. Always contact the police and allow them to handle drug activities.
You can also download the My SAPS App which is a free, crime-reporting mobile application available for smartphones on Google Play store, Apple App store and for Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) string on featured phones by dialing *134*10111#.

The South African Police Service is encouraging all citizens to download the #MySAPS app. The app allows citizens to share information more effectively by providing tip-offs anonymously through the app.
