The North-West University (NWU) community has conveyed its sadness following the untimely death of a 23-year-old student.


Onkgopotse Kgeletsane, a second-year Public Administration student,  was found dead in his room in the James Moroka residence on the Mahikeng Campus on Sunday, 12 June.

NWU STATEMENT OVER THE UNTIMELY DEATH

In a statement, the university has committed to continue to cooperate and provide all the necessary support to the South African Police Services’ investigation team to ensure a thorough investigation of the matter. 

“We are aware of the reports and speculations regarding the cause(es) of Onkgopotse Kgeletsane’s death, and we caution everyone to allow the SAPS to conclude the investigations and report accordingly,” NWU cautioned.


According to the police, a preliminary post-mortem report revealed that the victim died due to head and multiply body injuries.

Onkgopotse Kgeletsanewas last seen on Friday night, 10 June, with his friends before the untimely death.

Since the incident, the varsity said that its  NWU Student Counselling team has been providing the necessary support to fellow students and residents of the residence. 

We have also been in contact with the family, and we will support them in any way possible,”

POLICE SEEK FOR THE SUSPECTS

Mmabatho Police are currently on the hunt for the suspects.

A case of murder is also being investigated after it was initially registered as an inquest docket.
