A Northlands Girls’ High School matric learner has been caught in the crossfire in a shooting in Durban Central on Saturday, 12 June.
The area is said to be drug and crime ridden and the shooting could have been because of a turf war.
Netcare 911 said they responded to a shooting on the corners of Mazeppa and Pickering streets in Durban Central.
“Reports indicate that two adult males, minor male and minor female were shot multiple times while in their car. The two adult males in the front seats were assessed and found to have sustained fatal injuries and declared deceased on the scene.
“The minor female had sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital. The minor male had sustained moderate injuries and was stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital for further care.”
Northlands Girls’ High School acknowledged the passing and sent condolences.
“We are sadden by the loss of matric learner, Bianca Thandroyen. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this difficult time. May she rest in peace,” they wrote on their Facebook page.
An eyewitness alleged that he was near where the shooting happened and that the area is a bad area as drugs are sold in and around.
“We heard 4 shots then again 2. I think the guys name is Logi that was killed. It is either a drug related killing or a turf war. I looked out the window out of a building. People probably robbed the dead people in the car off their cell phones and money. At first it sounded like crackers but I knew it was gunshots probably 9mm pistols.
KwaZulu-Natal SAPS were contacted for comment from when the incident occurred and did not respond by the time of publication.
In another incident, two suspects disguised as police officers were shot and killed in a shootout with a motorist on the R50 near Delmas, which is just east of Johannesburg, in Mpumalanga. The suspects allegedly attempted to hijack that motorist’s Toyota SUV, and that is when the shooting occurred.
