Drugs worth more than R1.3 million seized, three arrested

The largest drug stash was found at a suspected female drug dealer’s house. Tik, dagga and heroin were found in her bedroom by a sniffer dog.

The police in the Northern Cape made three successful drug busts in Frances Baard, Namakwa and Pixely Ka-Seme recently. Three suspects were arrested in separate incidents on Tuesday, 12 July.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR DEALING DRUGS

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the Hartswater and Kimberley K9 Units followed up on information about a woman who was dealing drugs at the Hartswater taxi rank from her red Range Rover.

“The suspect’s vehicle was searched by both police officers and the narcotic dog ‘Eddie’, and no drugs could be found in the vehicle. The search proceeded to the suspect’s house in Extension 7 in Taung,” said Tawana.

At the suspect’s home, Eddie led his handler to a bedroom where drugs worth R1 315  260,00 were found.

The confiscated drugs included 12,7 grams of crystal meth (tik) worth R3810,00, 5,40 kilograms of loose dagga worth R21 600,00 and 2,85 kilograms of heroin worth R1 289 850,00.

The woman is expected to appear before the Taung Magistrate’s Court imminently on charges of dealing drugs.

SUSPECTS ARRESTED AFTER TIP-OFFS

In Springbok, a 34-year-old man was arrested by Visible Policing, Upington K9 Unit, members of the Local Criminal Record Centre and the Hawks after they received a tip-off that he would be travelling with a drug shipment.

The suspect was caught in possession of 312 Boss mandrax tablets worth R24 960 and is expected to appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon.

The third suspect was arrested in Prieska after the police received a tip-off about a house-breaking suspect who was said to be hiding at an alleged drug den.

“On arrival at the premises, a wanted suspect could not be found. However, a 32-year-old man who was found on the premises was searched and found in possession of 40 small zip lock bags containing crystal meth, weighing 8,84 grams, to the value of R2 000, twelve quarters of mandrax tablets to the value of R360, five packets of dagga to the value of R50 including cash amounting to R360 believed to be the proceeds of drug dealing,” said police.
