North West: Nine suspects due in court for teenager’s murder

According to North West police, the 19-year-old was beaten to death by angry community members who accused him of housebreaking

Nine suspects (two women and seven men) are expected to make another appearance at the Taung Magistrates’ Court in the North West on Monday, 4 July 2022, in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old boy, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the province has said.

“Oleogeng Donald Bohelo (29), Tumisang Duncan Lobelo (23), Bakang Makolonkwane (42), Mosepele Gideon Mompati (64), Amos Mbolelo Sanoke (27), Grace Molemoeng Segacwe (41), Frans Seabelo Thae (54), Gobonamang Thae (39) and Tekoetsile Francis Thae (58) were arrested on Wednesday, 29 June 2022”

“It is alleged that a 19-year-old Dikakanyo Sanoke was at his home in Loselong Village, Pudimoe, on Tuesday afternoon, 28 June 2022, when the accused fetched and forcefully took him to the nearby bushes. Senoke, who was accused of housebreaking, was allegedly beaten to death”

SAPS in the North West has indicated that they anticipate making more arrests in relation to Sanoke’s murder.

The accused currently in police custody were traced, arrested and appeared before the Taung Magistrates’ Court for the first time on Wednesday, 29 June 2022.

“They were remanded in custody. Further arrests are imminent. The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, warned that police will not tolerate lawlessness and that those who undermine the authority of the State will be dealt with accordingly,” Myburgh added.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old North West University student was found brutally murdered in his bed at the James Moroka residence on campus.

The student, Onkgopotse Kgeletsane, was found in his bed with head and multiply body injuries.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is still ongoing.

“Mmabatho Police are searching for suspect/s after a Onkgopotse’s lifeless body was found in his room at one of the students’ residences of North West University, Mahikeng Campus on Sunday, 12 June 2022,” Funani said.
