North-West is stuck in some pretty deep sh*t, literally
Recent aerial photographs show a ‘river of sewage’ flowing near Lichtenburg in the North-West, after the municipality’s sewage plant broke down.
Afriforum has taken the fight to the municipality and is acting on behalf of residents who, they believe, are at risk of e.Coli-related infections.
“According to Article 24 of the Constitution, municipalities have a responsibility towards communities regarding their health and safety as well as towards the environment. However, nothing is being done to ensure the safety of residents located close to the sewage problem,” Marcus Pawson of Afriforum told News24.
Now look here folks, e.Coli is no joke and if the municipality doesn’t get a handle of this “river of shit” flowing past settled areas, they could very well have an outbreak.
“We have been warning the Ditsobotla Local Municipality and the Department of Water and Sanitation for two years. The AfriForum branch in Lichtenburg demands that the Municipality adhere to their responsibility and protect residents,” Johan Swart of Lichtenburg’s Afriforum branch told News24.
