The Democratic Alliance (DA) seems to capitalising on the chaos that has erupted during the State of the Nation Address (SONA 2023) to win the hearts of South Africans over its manner of approach.

This as the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Members of Parliament including its leaders Julius Malema and Floyd Shivambu were booted out by security services during the sitting.

“The ANC and EFF chaos taking place in Parliament at #SONA2023 shows how important it is for South Africans to unite behind the DA at the next election. It is the only way to keep anarchy out!”

Streamed on YouTube, Steenhuisen spoke to the nation first ahead of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s 2023 State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, 9 February.

The opposition party hosted the TSONA with the intent to provide ‘real’ perspective on the issues plaguing South Africa and in turn propose tangible solutions.

During his speech, he said: “Look at the country’s trajectory on crime. Look at the trajectory on unemployment. Look at the trajectory on infrastructure maintenance and investment. Look at the trajectory on capital and skills flight. Look at the trajectory on load-shedding. Look at the trajectory on poverty.
The reality for ordinary South Africans – as opposed to the pampered ANC elite who have insulated themselves from the government failures they engineered – is that life has progressively become harder and harder over the past five years”.

“There is simply no realistic path to fixing South Africa that will not rely heavily on the DA bringing our demonstrated track record of good governance to bear at national level,” said Steenhuisen.
