Police said no arrests had been made yet after the trophy hunter, Riaan Naude (55) was shot in the head in a suspected hit last month.

No arrests had been made yet after a well-known trophy hunter, Riaan Naude (55) was shot in the head in a suspected hit just outside Mokopane last month.

NO ARRESTS YET AFTER TROPHY HUNTER WAS KILLED LAST MONTH

Riaan Naude was a well-known 55 years old game hunter who lived in Phalaborwa, South Africa.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi, police in Mahwelereng are investigating a murder case committed on the 8th June 2022 at about 11h45 along R518 Marken Road next to Sekgobela Farm.

Riaan Naude was a well-known 55 years old trophy hunter who lived in Phalaborwa, South Africa.

He said Riaan was found on the ground next to his black and brown Toyota Double Cab bakkie. He was facing upward, bleeding from his head and face. Riaan had an empty firearm holster around his waist

MOTIVE FOR THE MURDER IS UNKNOWN AT THIS STAGE

“Preliminary investigations revealed that a cattle herder from a nearby bush only heard one gunshot and noticed a white NP 300 with a trailer driving away from the scene of the crime.

“The vehicle drove north to the side of Marken, the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage, and it is not known which firearm was used to kill him.”

‘HE WAS FOUND WITH HIS FACE UP AND BLOOD ON HEAD AND FACE’

Seabi said it was further revealed that Riaan came from Phalaborwa in Mopani Region and also, and one pistol cartridge was found at the scene of the crime.

“The motor vehicle was found with a bonnet opened and a blue container with water sitting next to his m/vehicle that was parked on the side of the road.

“It seems his m/vehicle was overheating, and he stopped at the left side of the road when an unknown person came to attack him and shot him with one bullet in the head.”

Riaan was carrying two hunting Firearms, clothes, water, whiskey and, sleeping clothes, many live rounds.

Riaan was part of the Eco Safari group, located in the far north of the African country, and Pro Hunt Africa. Pro Hunt is a professional hunting team that attracts tourists looking to make their “dream” of hunting animals come true.

PEOPLE ARE NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE ANIMALS HE HAS SHOT AND KILLED

On the website of Pro Hunt, Riaan is seen posing with several wild animals that have been shot and killed, including elephants, zebras, giraffes, and lions.

Infuriated social media users reacted to the photos of Riaan posing with the animals.

According to a price list on Pro Hunt’s website, hunters are charged $2500 (R32 596,80) to kill a crocodile, while the price for the Big Five and a hippo is only given on request.
