No arrests have been made in connection with the gruesome discovery of four male bodies in Mooinooi township located roughly 40 kilometres outside of Rustenburg in the North West this past weekend.

MOOINOOI HOUSE ROBBERIES REPORTED BEFORE MURDERS

Provincial police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone reveals authorities are now looking into a link between the murders and house robberies in the Mamba Masimong Township in Mooinooi, which is where the murders also took place.

ALL FOUR BODIES WERE DISCOVERED ON SUNDAY EVENING – TWO HOURS APART

In the first murder, 31-year-old Molapi Phiri’s lifeless body was found outside his home on Sunday night, 24 January with multiple stab wounds to his body. Mokgwabone says authorities were called in to the scene at 21:45 pm that Sunday. The circumstances surrounding his murder are unknown at this stage.

MURDER MOTIVES REMAIN A MYSTERY

Just over two hours after police were called to Phiri’s residence, they were informed of the discovery of three bodies with fatal stab wounds also in the Mooinooi township. The deceased were lying outside a burning shack and as a result had sustained some burn injuries as well. Mokgwabone says the motives for these murders also are unknown. But not all is lost with regards to the murder investigation.

In the two days leading up to the murders, three house robberies were reported in the area. Nothing has been divulged about these robberies and if any possible suspects have been identified. There is suspicion the incidents are linked.

“Lieutenant General Sello Kwena has urged members of the community to come forward with information that can assist the police to solve these crimes which were seemingly sparked by house robberies. He also urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, but to report all criminal acts to the police”
