Another ‘Zuma’ in Parliament, just what we all needed

It was out with the old, and in with the… erm, even older… for the ANC today, as Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma was sworn in to public office. She returns to the party five years after leaving her role as the Home Affairs Minister

This came just an hour after Makhosi Khoza quit the ANC. Dlamini-Zuma has been brought in to serve as a Member of Parliament. She is replacing the outgoing Pule Mabe who was the ANC Youth League’s former treasurer. Although, it’s not exactly clear what role she’ll be doing…

Could this mean a cabinet reshuffle?

There is a vagueness that surrounds her appointment, and it doesn’t seem she’ll be the like-for-like replacement of Mabe. NDZ is President Zuma’s first choice to succeed him as the next ANC leader. It seems they’ll shoehorn her in anywhere to speed up the process.

This could mean one of two things: Either they haven’t found a position for her yet. Or, we’re getting another cabinet reshuffle. Our second of 2017.

Shortly after 12:30, ANC Spokesman Mololo Mothapo tweeted a photo of Dlamini-Zuma signing on the dotted line to take her place in Parliament.

Speaking to SABC shortly after putting pen to paper, NDZ said she has ‘no intention’ of becoming a cabinet member. However, we have to take these claims with a pinch of salt.

As Zuma’s preferred candidate for the ANC Leadership once he goes, JZ will be keeping his friends close, and his ex-wife even closer. The more power she has, the more comfortable his life will be.
