The Honourary Consulate to South Africa in Nepal, Pradeep Kumar, said that four South Africans and approximately 25 other tourists trapped on Langtang pass have walked to safety, reported Independent Media.

He confirmed that the four, Irma Fourie, Heinz Hochrinner, Mike Sherman and Kate Ahrends, will be brought to Kathmandu from Nuwakot to meet up with the Gift of the Givers team.

They have been trapped at the nature reserve since Saturday and were meant to be airlifted from Langtang. Instead, they and other tourists have evacuated Langtang and walked to safety.

Another South African couple, Shane Matthews and Elsje Bezuidenhout, who were in the north-eastern parts of Nepal when the quake struck, are, according to News24, “shaken but safe”. They are currently in Lukla with hundreds of other tourists all wanting to get home.
