A Twar broke out between Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of Parliament Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula.

The twar comes as a result of the national shutdown which is planned to take place on Monday, 20 March.

‘WE ARE NOT A BANANA REPUBLIC’

Mbalula took to his Twitter account to say that law and order must prevail as South Africa is not a banana republic.

“Law and order must prevail we are a state not a banana republic,” tweeted Mbalula.

Responding to the Tweet, Ndlozi tweeted: “You have a banana imagination. And stop lying you are not in Braam”.

Braamfontein is where students gathered on Sunday, 19 March to prepare for the national shutdown by protesting on the streets.

EFF VOWS TO BRING THE STATE INTO A STAND STILL

Last month, EFF leader Julius Malema vowed that his organisation would bring South Africa to a standstill.

“Fighters, the militancy and protest character of the EFF, the fearless character, the ground forces of the EFF, your determination to liberate the people of South Africa is going to be seen on 20 March, when you bring South Africa to a standstill,” said Malema.

CALLS FOR SHUTDOWN RECEIVED MIXED EMOTIONS

However, the call was received with mixed emotions with some citizens, political parties and businesses being for the national shutdown and some not.

GOVERNMENT DESPACTHED POLICE AND MILITARY FORCES AROUND THE COUNTRY

The government has also despatched police and military officers around the country to ensure the safety of the citizens.

The EFF has spoken against the government’s decision to despatch military forces around the country saying that their march will be a peaceful one.

EFF WARNS THE POLICE NOT TO PROVOKE THEM DURING NATIONAL SHUTDOWN

The political party also warned the police not to provoke them during the national shutdown.

“We see that Ramaphosa wants to turn this state into a dictatorship by unleashing the army, unleashing the police on a peaceful protest. We won’t allow that,” said Omphile Maotwe, EFF Treasurer-General in an interview with Newzroom Afrika.
