Build One South Africa leader Mmusi Maimane does not believe protest action is the solution as the nation gears for a National Shutdown on 20 March.
“From 2015-2023 students have protested for access to higher education and Blade Nzimande has laughed at their demands and kept his job,” Maimane gave an example of a ‘failed’ protest action.
Instead of seeing the National Shutdown for what it is, Maimane believes the entire campaign is to market the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
“The EFF South Africa is marketing itself using the crisis of South Africans.”

“The protest will not move Cyril and the ANC,” he gave a friendly warning.
All institutions have been warned not to operate on 20 March as this well-supported National Shutdown is expected to take centre stage across the country.
However, Maimane still advocates against the Shutdown. Showing them how it’s done, Maimane said, “On Monday along with 18 other entities, Build One SA are taking Pravin Gordhan and President Cyril Ramaphosa and others to oppose the electricity price increases, to fight for the uninterrupted access to electricity for all South Africans and for government accountability”.
“We are not in 2017, this is 2023 and we must make moves that work for the environment we are in. Courts work to hold the government to account, but protests are ignored by the ANC. In fact, even the ANC is protesting on Friday,” he said.
This is a developing story.
