The naked body of a young woman was found with bruises and stab wounds along the Ilitha main Road outside Qonce.

THE BODY OF THE YOUNG WOMAN WAS FOUND ON WEDNESDAY

Police spokesperson Captain Mluleki Mbi said it is believed a man could assist in solving the murder of the woman.

“It is alleged that a naked woman’s body was found in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 20 October 2021 along the Ilitha main Road outside Qonce with bruises and stab wounds on the body.”

Mbi said police are currently following good leads and are appealing to the perpetrator to come forward and appeal to the members of the public to excise restraint and work with the police.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated murder, police have arrested a 19-year-old man after he handed himself over on Wednesday night at 18:30 for the murder of his 16-year-old girlfriend.

According to police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge the murder took place in the early hours of 11 October 2021 at about 02:00 at a house in Bauhinia Crescent.

“The murder allegedly took place on 11 October 2021 in the early hours of the morning at about 02:00 at a house in Bauhinia Crescent, Thomas Gamble, Kamesh, where the suspect lives.

“His 16-year-old girlfriend, who lives in Rosedale, was visiting him at that time. She was not seen again, and on 18 October 2021, her parents opened a missing person file at Kamesh police station.”

Beetge said the man handed himself over to police on Wednesday night and pointed out that he buried her in the garden at his home in Bauhenia Crescent.

“Police then found her body in a shallow grave at that premises and the suspect was subsequently arrested for her murder. He will be appearing before the Uitenhage Magistrates Court on 22 October 2021 for the murder.”

Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Brigadier Tandiswa Kupiso has strongly condemned the murder and added that the rights of women and children need to be protected by all of our community.

“All crimes violating those rights will remain one of the key focus areas of the South African Police Service, and no stones will be left unturned to bring those perpetrators before the court to answer for their crimes.”
