An East London man who is accused of murder after he allegedly killed his girlfriend and then dumped her body parts appeared briefly in court this week.

Alutha Pasile, 25, made his brief second appearance in the East London Magistrates Court on Tuesday to face charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.

National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson for the Eastern Cape, Anelisa Ngcakani said Pasile was facing the murder charge following the gruesome murder of his  23-year-old girlfriend Nosicelo Mtebeni, who was a student studying at the University of Fort Hare. Pasile and Mtebeni were lovers and lived together in Quigney in East London.

Ngcakani said a man who overheard two school girls taking about their gruesome discovery of the body parts had led to the recovery of Mtebeni’s body from where Pasile had allegedly dumped them after the murder.

“On 19 August 2021 at about 7am, a 36-year-old man was walking on the streets of Quigney in East London when he overheard two school girls expressing their shock and disgust about how sick people in Quigney were,” Ngcakani said.

Ngcakani said the man went to look at the dump and reported the murder to the police.

“The man then approached the girls as he wanted to find out what they were talking about. They then told him that there were two bags at a nearby garbage dumping site which contained human body parts. He then went to inspect and once he saw the gruesome sight he then alerted police who were patrolling the area,” Ngcakani said.

“Police swiftly started investigating. This led them to a witness who allegedly saw Pasile at about 5am leaving his residence with a purple suitcase and a grey-black bag. This account fitted the description of the two bags which were found at the dumping site. Pasile was arrested on the same day,” Ngcakani added.

Pasile elected not to apply for bail or legal representation. His murder case was postponed to 9 November 2021 for further police investigation.
