Two suspects arrested for murder and attempted murder

Two suspects have been arrested for murder and attempted murder by the Phuthaditjhaba and Welkom Public Order Police Units, working with the assistance of patrollers.

The murder suspects and the attempted murder suspects were arrested over the weekend in two separate incidents.

A WOMAN WAS KILLED FOR PROTECTING HER HOUSE

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said on Saturday afternoon at about 14:00, police received a complaint of possible murder at Mphatlalatsane village. On their arrival, they found a woman stabbed to death on the floor. He was covered with a blanket. The deceased was identified as 28-year-old Mpho Xaba.  

A community member told police that the victim was trying to stop the suspect from throwing stones at her house as he had already damaged her windowpanes.

“He allegedly fatally stabbed her, and he also stabbed another person who tried to stop him,’ Mophiring said.

A manhunt was launched and the area in and around Mphatlatsane Village was saturated with more boots on the ground. A house-to-house search was conducted.

The suspect was finally traced to the local school premises, where he was arrested.

MURDER SUSPECTS WERE FOUND WITH BLOOD STAINS AND A KNIFE

“He was searched, and knife and clothes with blood stains were confiscated,”

The 29-year-old suspect was due to appear in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate Court on Monday on charges of murder, attempted murder, and malicious damage to property.

In another incident in Matwabeng, near Senekal police received a complaint of domestic violence that was in progress at Ditedu Hostel in Matwabeng township.

On investigation, they found a suspect had allegedly stabbed his girlfriend Mantoa Moletsane and another person Themba Mayekiso.

The 30-year-old Moletsane sustained multiple stab wounds, and Mayekiso was injured on his waist and eye. Both victims were rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment.

THE MAN, WITH A BLOODY KNIFE IN HAND, WAS THREATENING TO KILL ANYONE

“Police found the suspect walking around the yard holding a bloody knife in his right hand threatening to kill anyone including the police officials on the scene.

Mophiring said officers on the scene called for backup, and the 42-year-old suspect was arrested and was due in court on Monday on two charges of attempted murder.
