Mother, 24, and two-year-old daughter murdered in Mpumalanga

The mother was found lying on the kitchen floor and her daughter was found in the bedroom with a neck injury. No arrests have been made.

A 24-year-old mother and her two-year-old daughter were allegedly murdered in Balfour, Mpumalanga on Monday, 6 June.

MOTHER AND DAUGHTER KILLED

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the alleged murder took place in Siyathemba Informal Settlement, Balfour.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a woman lying on the kitchen floor and a toddler was found in the bedroom with an injury to her neck. Paramedics declared both dead at the scene.

“It was further revealed that the woman’s five-month-old child was allegedly taken by his father and he is unharmed,” said Mohlala.

The Mpumalanga police commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela condemned the killing of the mother and daughter and vowed that SAPS would continue to fight the scourge of crime against women and children.

“She has further urged the team of investigators to ensure the perpetrator(s) is speedily arrested,” said the police spokesperson.
