A report from Witbank News and the testimony of several eyewitnesses claim that a mother in Mpumalanga threw her infant baby out of the window of a car, near Highveld Mall on Tuesday.

The incident bought traffic to a grinding halt, as the driver of the vehicle – who had initially given the mother a lift – reacted incandescently to the horrendous scene.

As shocked motorists came to terms with what they had seen, one bystander rushed in to pick up the discarded baby and is credited with finding the tot some emergency medical assistance.

Mpumalanga baby “critical” after allegedly being thrown from a car

From a doctor’s room close to the mall, the baby was then transferred to the nearby Life Cosmos hospital facility. The local publication described the patient as being “critical”. We’ve followed up with several emergency services in the area, and we have been told a statement will be provided once their is an update on the child’s condition.

Clarise Smit bore witness to the incident but admits she was oblivious to the true lack of humanity she had seen until driving past it. She confirmed an ambulance had arrived at the scene soon afterwards:

“We were passing when the ambulance transported the baby. We thought it was a [car] accident that happened, but we finally realised what happened later. My heart goes out to the little baby who did nothing wrong.”

Mother stopped by angered drivers

Travelling in a white BMW, the mother and her unwitting driver were soon stopped in their tracks by other infuriated motorists. Many behind the vehicle had noticed the heinous act straight away, and did everything they could to apprehend the mom, who was later pictured by the roadside with her hands behind her back.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning at approximately 10:45. The baby was reported to have been thrown through the car window on Mandela Street – which runs parallel to the shopping centre – and the vehicle she was travelling was also brought to a halt on that stretch of road.

We are awaiting any further developments in the case, and once we have more information from Mpumalanga, we’ll update this article accordingly. The baby was still receiving hospital treatment as of 16:30 on Tuesday.
