Mother and daughter busted for drugs worth more than R1 million

A mother daughter duo were busted for possession of drugs wroth more than R1.2 million in Vanrhynsdorp on the Cape West Coast.

A mother and her daughter were busted for possession of drugs worth more than R1.2 million at their home in Vanrhynsdorp on the Cape West Coast on Wednesday, 5 January 2023.

MOTHER AND DAUGHTER DUO BUSTED FOR MANDRAX AND TIK POSSESSION

The 41-year-old mother and Correctional Services official, and her 20-year-old daughter were in possession of mandrax tablets and tik.

They were arrested at home while packaging mandrax tables and tik.

As reported by IOL, this arrest followed after two suspects were arrested on the N7 between Vanrhynsdorp and Klawer.

They were in possession of mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R51 600.

The mother and daughter duo were busted at their home packaging the drugs, which included mandrax tablets and tik valued at more than R1.2m and in possession of R17 800 cash.

“Members of the Provincial Traffic stopped a Mazda sedan on the N7 between Vanrhynsdorp and Klawer and arrest of a 33-year-old suspect and a 21-year-old suspect with mandrax tablets valued at R51 600,” Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel André Traut said.

“He said this arrest and the subsequent investigation led various units of the South African Police Services and members of the Provincial Traffic to an address in Vanrhynsdorp where the mother and daughter were arrested.

Traut said they believe the R17 800 is the proceeds of drug trafficking.

“The 41-year-old suspect was identified as a member of the Correctional Services.”

He said the circumstances surrounding the mother and daughter drug bust were still under investigation.

Meanwhile, the four are detained on charges of dealing in drugs until their court appearances in.

Correctional Services National Commissioner Makgothi Tjobakgale said it was disappointing that some of their own are involved in illegal activities and smuggling illicit items into their facilities.
