President Jacob Zuma never leaves us bored. Just when you think he can’t top himself, he does just that. Here’s a list of some of the best Zuma moments of the year.

That time he beat another vote of no confidence

In early August, the South African Parliament held a motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma. This was the 9th motion of no confidence against the president held during his time. He survived by 21 votes. The public could not understand how he managed to survive it.

The SONA 2017 fiasco

This memorable moment involves all members of the DA and ANC who were present at the SONA Debate. There was so much chaos that the Deputy Speaker, Lechesa Tsenoli struggled to keep order in Parliament.

The Anti-Zuma march

Now this moment was not an action by the president himself. But the fact the fact that it was about him makes it a notable Zuma moment. This march was a strong reaction from the public caused by Zuma’s actions. The #ZumaMustFall campaign created a lot of conflict and drama across South Africa and on social media.

Zuma’s free education announcement

After three years of #FeeMustFall demonstrations by university students across the country, Zuma announces the motion for free education. Earlier this month, the President announced that government will subsidise free higher education for poor and working class students. What makes this moment most notable is the fact that nobody understood how he planned to make this a reality.

Zuma’s reaction to Ramphosa’s election

This is the most recent moment involving Jacob Zuma. It’s especially notable because it shows Zuma acting very unlike himself. His usually cheerful demeanour changed instantly to a very serious one. May he be worried? This reaction might be telling us a lot about that will take place in the future for South African politics.
