The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Hillary Gardee who was laid to rest on Saturday.

On Friday, a 28-year-old suspect who was supposed to get married on Saturday was arrested by Mpumalanga police.

MORE SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN MURDER CASE

The EFF has welcomed the arrest of two more suspects in connection with the murder of the party’s former secretary general, Godrich Gardee’s daughter.

Mpumalanga Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela and Police Minister, Bheki Cele had said that they are expecting more people to be arrested.

The EFF said the suspects are unknown at this stage, however, they will appear at the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 9 May 2022.

“The family will be in attendance, and we hope justice will be served to the fullest extent. Considering that the first suspect was apprehended while fleeing and in hiding, the family and the EFF are of the considered view that all the accused must be denied bail as they are collectively undeniable flight risk.

“If we are to send a strong message against  the brutal abuse, harassment and killing of women in this country, the appearance of those accused with this heinous crime must be used as an opportunity to show the unity of society against Gender-based violence.”

GODRICH RECALLS HORRIFFIC INJURIES ON HILLARY GARDEE

In a seven-minute recorded video message that played out during the funeral, Godrich Gardee recounted all the horrific injuries the family noted on his daughter’s body.

“Little did we know you would die a tragic death. A death characterised by boot prints on your chest. A blunt object striking your head. Stab wounds on your breast and back. A gunshot on the back of your head and a bleeding nose. It never occurred to me and the family that we would have to identify you in a bush lying face down. With your hand clutching tightly on shrubs and grass fighting for your life.“
