Some devastating news has reached us from the Cape Flats on Tuesday, as a quadruple homicide was reported at a property in Mitchell’s Plain, Western Cape. Four people were shot dead in the early hours of the morning, with the suspects fleeing the scene immediately.

The police are still trying to establish the facts and motives behind this heinous crime, but our sources believe that the perpetrators belonged to a local gang.

Mitchell’s Plain shooting – what we know so far

It’s understood that multiple suspects piled out of an Isuzu bakkie in the middle of the night and opened fire on everyone inside the property in Hazeldene Street, Portlands. The four victims were all aged in their early thirties and suffered a number of fatal gunshot wounds. All of them were declared dead at the scene.

The SA Police Service (SAPS) have issued a statement on the matter. They confirmed that investigations are already well underway on the Cape Flats, and the possibility of gang-activity has been punted:

“Anti Gang Unit members and crime scene experts are combing the scene for clues following an incident in the early hours of this morning where three males and a woman between the ages of 30 and 32 were shot dead in Mitchell’s plain. Investigations by detectives are looking into all possibilities including indications this could be gang related.”

“Reports at the disposal of police indicate that the victims were in a house in Hazeldene Street in Portlands (Cape Flats) when a vehicle with occupants pulled up and three suspects got into the premises and fired multiple shots before they fled.”

SANDF on the Cape Flats

It comes as a bitter blow for law enforcement agencies in the troubled Cape Flats. Mitchell’s Plain in particular has become a hot-spot for gang crime, prompting military intervention in the suburb. The army will remain in this part of the Western Cape until early 2020.

SANDF continue to patrol the Cape Flats, but they were hoodwinked by this fast-moving group of callous thugs. Police are encouraging any witnesses to come forward and share what they know with the authorities. Those with any information on this incident must contact the Anti-Gang Unit hotline 0800 664 264.
